Our Busy Life

The month of September has been a month to readjust back to the busy routine of teaching and business growth. David has made a major transformation in the dining room by adding new shelves for his new acquired many books.
There is still a lot to do as more shelves will go up on the other side of the wall facing east. Washing and oiling these shelves are a must before putting books and decoration pieces later on. Now will also be decision of where the Christmas tree will go this year as the space is now taken.

As this was going on one Friday morning it was a surprise to see such a change. I had to get gaz in the next little town and coming back was quite a spectacular view in front of me. I stopped to take this picture.
You would think snow is in the air but nothing happened. Not even a drop of rain. Autumn is really in the air as I have mentioned on my last post and be prepare to view what I have to show you next.

We are feeding tons of bees right now not to mention wasps as well. But bees I don't mind as they are too busy to attact which isn't their nature. This is where they are all busy.

Facing West, in front of the screened veranda is the popular rendez-vous place selected from so many bees this year. The word got around I guess.

Now a little closer one would think that these are giant snap-dragons but they are not.

A little bee is going right in one of these flowers.

The next shot tells all. Caught in the act so to speak.

And while we have been as busy as those bees, we decided to take a break and have a little drink on the veranda before supper.

Sitting out and having a nice coversation while the sun was warming us. Osker stood inside the door checking on us from that angle.

This scene is after supper. Listening to jazz while waiting for the water to boil for tea and coffee.

Sometimes, Osker likes being on Dave's laps. Mine are not comfortable for him and his foot bone jabs into my skin which isn't relaxing haha.

And now that Osker has seen where the carpet is now repositioned, we have noticed that it is also his favorite place to relax.

Since it took me so long trying to capture this flower named "kiss-me-under-the-garden-gate" which is a mouth full for the name of a flower, I have decided for my reward to include it here on this raining Saturday afternoon. As by frost time maybe next week, all of these flowers will be gone.

It may be because of Autumn

Osker has been acting up lately. Could it be because Autumn is coming? Bees and wasps are busy still going from flower to flower to get nectar from flowers like this one.

And it is amazing to see big bees entering these flowers and backing out almost immediately. The wasps also seems to like these flowers and we have tons of them. Is Osker trying to hunt for winter as well?

Yep.... the first sign that Autumn is in the air already. It's as if these colors came overnight. No wonder the animals are getting busier and busier and acting up too.

Meanwhile, last Sunday as Dave was busy showing the house to groups of visitors, and I had to be away, Osker decided to venture out. When I got back, he was tied to the back porch looking miserable because Dave had given him an outdoor bath. The second this year. Because he rolled in something pretty gross from the smell of it.

Dave had put him in the shade near the potash and I could hear him bark from upstairs. So I moved him in the sun to warm up since it was chilly in the shade at this time of the year.

And this is the content look on his face. Letting the sun dry his wet fur while we went for a walk. That was the number one episode. Number two happened this Tuesday night when after supper I went to get milk in Lancaster. I had put in the morning a basket of garden tomatoes near the fireplace with four small and two medium tomatoes. When I got back, there was only two small tomatoes left.

This is the look of Osker the criminal hahaha. Avoiding to look at me as I ask him what did he eat in the kitchen.

This is the amusing adventure of having a pet. You never know what goes on in their little brain.

Celebrating Another Special Birthday

Nara's birthday was celebrated on August 31st and now it's David's birthday on the 7 of September. Winston wasn't with us this time to celebrate but here is what we did that Thursday night.

A reservation was made for 6:00 at the Georgian House.
A special table was reserved for us just in a beautiful corner for privacy. We were both happy for that selection. Here is Dave looking at the menu.

To start with, with both had carrot soup followed by escargots with garlic butter and cheese for Dave while I had a garden salad. For the main course, Dave ordered beef wellington with a bake potato and vegetables and I had salmon with crab and shrimps served with rice and vegetables. And for dessert......

Surprise..... surprise. Dave didn't know that his favorite cheese cake would come to our table with a happy birthday song from the waitress along with good wishes. The kind of coffee he likes completed the meal. I had the same thing but with tea. There was unfortunately no room for me to finish the cake. I had only two bites from it.

Before we left, the nice waitress who booked this special table asked if she could take a picture of both of us before we left and here it is.
Before we went in, Dave spotted a sign saying that the jazz band would be on Friday night. I was excited as we were already planning to come back again to enjoy the evening with music. It's too bad they were not on that night. But we got too busy to go as Dave had to prepare his parcels to take over the border early Saturday morning and I was getting tired too after a hectic day at school. It will be for another time.

Empty Nest

I hate departures. It was once again with mixed feelings that I had to accept Winston's return to college. The empty nest symdrome is more apparent now. Thank goodness as the saying goes for going back to work. But I do call him every night to say good night and to check on how his day went since he doesn't have the internet yet.

Saturday night, we went to get this van from one of Winston's friend. Robert was very kind indeed to facilitate the move. This Toyota van was fun to drive.

We had the right amount of space for this move otherwise, we would have needed two cars.

The Sunday morning farewell to Osker since he wasn't coming with us this time. We were expecting a lot of rain from two hurricanes and I could just imagine how to deal with the move and Osker in a new place.
Our last supper before departure back to our home town was at a Japanese-Korean restaurant that we had spotted earlier while searching for Staples which was a few blocks away. We made a good choice going there. I had bibimbap. Nara has mentioned this dish so often that I had to order it hahaha. Winston and Dave both had Japanese dish. Winston had chicken terryaki and Dave had soba. Oh yeah, we drank warm Sake, my favorite Japanese drink that goes so well with rice.

Then the drive home. Anxious to see Osker and the cats to help with the emptiness. I hate going upstairs and to look into our children's room when they so recently left and seeing it empty. Such is life I guess. But hey, we had fun though Winston and I when he was here, trying out this new dance pad.....

A la prochaine

The Identity of our Small Ontario Village

Williamstown is a very small village so small in fact that at night you can hear frogs, crickets, the wings of bats coming so close in order to eat as many mosquitoes as they can. During the day, if you are still and don't move, you can even hear the wings of birds when they land on a branch to get seeds and when they leave.

Here are signs of the pulse of a small village in the country built along the Raisin River.
The charming bed and breakfast house of Mary and Mike Caron.

And these pictures are from the back of their house.

Signs of proud owners in our village are as follows:

and more ........

These pictures are from the fair ground. Talking about the fair ground, last week I was surprised to finally see the dog agility competition going on for two days. Ribbons were given for the top performer.

More of our little Williamstown village....

This is Roger walking his greyhound dogs that he rescued from a sure death after they showed signs of not winning anymore on the race track. He finds homes for them. Roger and his wife Pat, have been doing the rescuing for quite a while now.

And this is Osker taking a break. Hahaha Glenda is giving him water because it's hard work following mommy around everywhere in town taking pictures.

And Osker knows who gives him treats along the way. Even if people are not at home, he stops there and I have to drag him along.

We have emergency signs like the civic number that every home must have.

And historical plaques like this one posted at important sites in the village.

Kylie and Kim working at the Norwesters and Loyalists museum during the summer.

There are lots more I didn't take pictures of. But this is the route Osker and I normally take on our walk. And this post was thought of as I was walking so I know that I have omitted the library which I am tempted to do now but I have been working on this blog for a good two and half hour.

This is the plaque for our house where we live in. The Bethune-Thompson House which receives a lot of visitors every summer like this cyclist group did one afternoon.

And as my vacation is coming to a an end and festivities are all over for one more year, I have captured what will be my positive reserve for the cold winter months. Lets say that this is food for my energy. A good lesson of observation through a digital camera lens that did make a difference.

Finished at 4:30.
